Batasuna denounces the "bid in favour of war" agreed by the PSOE and the PNV.The PSE ("Basque" branch of the socialist party) spokesman, Rodolfo Ares, declared last week that if the PNV made a "realistic and viable" proposal, it would be "possible" to make a new statute for the three provinces that conform the Basque Autonomous Community. The former Spanish president Felipe Gonzalez added, "Josu Jon Imaz is the best thing that has happened to the Basque Country".
After those declarations the Basque pro-independence left has declared "those two brief declarations clearly summarize the "romance" between the PSOE and the PNV. These two parties go hand by hand with the to swindle and submit this Country again". More over, according to the Basque Pro-independence Left, these declarations are a good example of the behaviour maintained by the PSOE and the PNV before the process: to close the doors to a solution and to extend the conflict.
The Basque pro-independence left believes that the words of Rodolfo Ares are the reflection that the PSOE is reluctant to respect the Basque Country's right to decide. Hardly denounced also that this party only offer "the negation and partition of the Basque Country" and that the PNV is "a loyal" partner of such policies.
Garzon orders the imprisonment of three Basque citizens based on a testimony given under torture.Iñaki Telletxea, Xabier Irastorza and Markos Sagarzazu have been sent to prison after Judge Balthasar Garzon used as fundamental piece of evidence Iratxe Sorzabal's declarations given under heavy torture as diverse photographs show.
The defence denounced that Iratxe Sorzabal did not even mention in her testimony the actions imputed to the three detainees. More over, the document written by the Civil Guard leaves these three Basque citizens outside the mentioned actions.
6.000 signatures in favour of Arnaldo Otegi's immediate release.Already a month since the www.arnaldoaskatu.org web page was presented they and more than 6.000.000 signatures have demanded Arnaldo Otegi's immediate freedom, among which can be found the support and solidarity of many international organisations and politicians.
Those signing the document emphasize both the important roll carried out by Arnaldo Otegi as main spokesman of the Basque Pro-independence Left as well as by the important paper carried out in the political process, and indicate that its imprisonment is very serious underlining that behind its imprisonment hides a political decision.
Between the signers demanding the immediate liberation of Arnaldo Otegi we can find: ELA, LAB, EHNE Gipuzkoa, EHNE Bizkaia, STEE-EILAS (Basque trade unions), Anai-Artea (social organisation), EAE-ANV, Abertzaleen Batasuna (political parties), Euskaria, ESAIT (organisation that demands and organises Basque sport selections), Pablo Lorente (Navarres former member of parliament), Tomas Urzainki (historian), Juanjo Soria (lawyer), Paul Nicholson (member of Via Campesina), Coordinadora Simon Bolivar (Venezuela), Barry Mc Colgan (National Organiser O'gra Sinn Fein - Ireland), Walter Agredo (Political Imprisoned Solidarity Committee - Colombia), Bruno Lopes Teixeiro (NÓS-UP, Galiza), Eoin O'Broin (Sinn Fein - Dublin), Ramon Zallo (Basque University professor), Antonio Alvarez-Solis (journalist), Committee of Solidarite avec le Peuple Basque (Paris), Joxe Agustin Arrieta (translator), Jesus Uzcudun (trade unionist), Luis Ocampo (Izquierda Castellana), Felix Placer (priest), Pedro Negrin (economist), David Parrilla (CCOO Spanish trade unionist)...
The Basque political refugee, Lurdes Garai, arrested in Hazparne freed the following day. After being interrogated in the police station of Baiona, the political refugee of Bilbao Lurdes Garai was freed yesterday at 7:00 o'clock in the afternoon. Garai was arrested the previous day at 6:00 in the morning in her house of Hazparne and after having her house registered for two hours she was transferred to the police station.
The news agencies said that according to police sources, the arrest of Garai was related to the open operative to arrest her sentimental partner Joxe Mari Zaldua Korta, who is currently on the run.
Bulgarelli requests EU's active impulse in favour of the Basque process. The Italian senator of the Greens, Mauro Bulgarelli defended yesterday the necessity of the European institutions implication in the Basque political conflict resolution "the Basque conflict has an European dimension and the active participation of the countries of the European Union is needed search for its solution". Bulgarelli, is also a member of the Italian Senate's Commission of Justice, he has been the first visit of an international politician to Arnaldo Otegi since he was jailed the past 8th June.
As a result of the international interest on the Basque political conflict, Bulgarelli advanced that an Italian association of magistrates that develops studies and investigations on infringements of human rights anywhere in the world, is analyzing the possibility of going to the European Court of Human rights in Strasbourg to denounce this imprisonment.
On the political situation in the Basque Country, Bulgarelli comented that Otegi told him that "although the Basque pro-independence left maintains its bid in defence of the process", with dialogue, negotiation and agreement as tools, its imprisonment is "totally contradictory at a moment in which society demands a negotiation process".
On the other hand, the member of the Basque pro-independence left national executive Joseba Alvarez remembered both that when Bulgarelli was a deputy in the Italian Congress presented different initiatives in favour of the Basque Country, and that he also was a member of the Commission of Guarantees that in 2003 came to the Basque Country to observe the first elections celebrated in which the Basque pro-independence left was illegalized.
Mauro Bulgarelli indicated that Otegi underlined that "it is necessary to give concrete steps in the process, quikly, so that the elections do not interfere". Taking into account that the general elections in the Spanish State will take place in 2008 an that a year later autonomic ones, Bulgarelli indicated that the preoccupation is based in which the solution of the conflict is relegated to a second degree. He there fore requested to take concrete steps and in a relatively short period.
Alvarez said that when sending to prison who has been the "main protagonist of the process, a symbol of the pro-independence left in the negotiations", they have in fact "jailed the own process".
The French State hands over to Spain two Basque political prisoners and admits another Euro order. The French state has handed over to Madrid for six months the two Basque political prisoners Ainhoa Mujika and Lexuri Gallastegi and has also admitted the Euro order against Pablo Aperribai who will be sent to the Spanish state in about ten days.
