THE SPANISH INQUISITION, STILL ON ACTIVE SERVICE
Two little Spanish extreme right factions made a formal complaint against five members of Batasuna, against two of the Euskadi Socialist Party, and against the Basque President Ibarretxe himself. The factions accused all of them of disobedience, as the members of the Socialist Party and the Basque President met the members of Batasuna, and it is forbidden by the Spanish Parties Law. The ones who made the complaint are visceral anti-Basque people, as current legislation that protect them.
On October 30, the examining magistrate decided to institute proceedings against them. All of them might be sentenced to several year imprisonment; the sentence asked for the members of Batasuna is double as they attended more meetings.

When the Law do not promote justice, but revengeThis facts are according to the Spanish legislation. The Parties Law says that Batasuna is "an illegal political group being a part of ETA, they practice terrorism". According to it, any citizen who meets with terrorists commits a crime of collaboration with a terrorist group. The fascist who are behind the accusation are too benevolent, as they could have accused them of collaboration instead of disobedience, and then the sentence would have been harder.
From a political point of view, it is typical of the Middle Ages the fact of prosecuting dialogue and of accusing the people who try to talk to find a solution for the conflict. The same Law could have been used against the Spanish government who met Batasuna and ETA several times. According to this Law, all the Spanish Parliament are guilty as they authorized the government to meet ETA... From an ethic, politic, and human point of view, it is madness, but it is the legal system that is in force in Spain. This legislation is not a legacy of Franco times, it is a legislation promoted by PSOE and PP to finish with Batasuna because they do not condemn ETA (Who condemns the State violence? Is it useful to condemn?). The Parties Law was created to exert the revenge against a group of persons. It is a juridical aberration like the Inquisition laws, but unfortunately it is now in force in a State that is supposed to be democratic and modern.
The Socialist Party, caught between the devil and the deep blue seaThe socialists are trapped in the very trap they made. They are deep defenders of a Constitution that now turns against them; they promoted a Parties Law that now judge them because they declared that the pro-independence ideas were a crime. It is a difficult situation for them, but they have little room for maneuver. They can not discredit or call for mobilizations against a system where they take refuge to keep their privileges. So, they have announced that they will not take part in any action questioning separation of powers (Does it really exist?), and the trail against their members.
The surprising perplexity of the ones ruling the Basque self-governing regionThe reaction of PNV (one of the three forming the Basque tripartite, and the party of the Basque President) is a mixture of anger, outrage, and perplexity. It is only now that they discover that the Spanish justice is politized, that we are ruled by a legislation that criminalizes ideas, that the Spanish state uses the courts to prosecute the Basque Country, that we can not be passive in front of this abuse of power, and in front of this shameful utilization of justice.
They are right, and this is the reason why their past actions are outrageous. Now they ask the people to mobilize against a legislation they supported before. They used this very legislation to prosecute Basque people; they help the Spanish legislation to charge young people with belonging to a terrorist organization just because they took part in a demonstration.
They are outraged, buy only when they are involved. Even when they are suffering the same threat that the Basque Left, they prosecute this Basque Left. One of the members of the tripartite, Izquierda Unida ("Left United") propose demonstrations against this trial, but without the Basque Left. All the mainstream media focus on the accused Basque President and the two members of the Socialist Party, buy they do not said a word about the five members of the Basque Left who are also accused, because this media consider that prison is the right place for them; it is a normal fact that members of the Basque Left are committed to trial and sentenced to prison.
The Basque Left, always prosecuted by the Spanish Inquisition There is an important difference among the defendants. The ones belonging to PNV and PSE will never be in prison. Four out if the five defendants belonging to the Basque Left are already in prison under the Parties Law, and under the charge of being pro-independence in a country that criminalizes this option.
The Basque Left repeated over and over the same words that now are saying the members of PNV and PSOE. But nobody paid attention to them; even more, they were prosecuted. The Basque Left reiterate something they have always said: The Spanish state is like the Inquisition. They also denounce that the media criticize this judicial measures, but they agree that the Parties Law prosecutes pro-independence people. This meant attitude is just the opposite of the solidarity of several European groups whose members when to the prison where Otegi is imprisoned to visit him, Otegi who was the interlocutor choose by the Basque Left and a firm defender of dialogue.
The Basque Left have committed to inform international authorities about this situation. They are supported by another organizations and many internationalist organizations. They will not be inactive as the Spanish Inquisition-like justice sentence the pro-sovereignty conscience of our people.
