ETXERAT is conscious of the existence of the conflict between the French and Spanish States and The Basque Country.
It admits citizens with different ideology who suffer themselves or their relatives both States? repression in forms of torture , exile, deportation, inprisonment or even death.
Due to the different ideology of Etxerat members, it has not been easy to reach common diagnosis about the origin of our situation, but finally, we have come to the following conclusion: "...the denial by force of a basic right as it is the recognition of the Basque Country as a different nation and the real impossibility of reaching the objective by democratic ways, is the caused of a conflict in which thousands of people, in the last centuries have involved, among them our victimized relatives...".
Etxerat objectives
Both those first relatives, as the ones who necessarily have gone including to different associations, have clear which is our strategical aim, and it is not other than WE WANT THEM AT HOME. We know that this objective will only be reached as a consequence of the conflict solution. That is why , integrated in the Pro-Amnesty Movement, we have compromised to work with the political and social agents from the Basque Country who bet for the conflict definite solution; a solution which, without any doubt, must take account of the returning back home of all our victimized relatives.
In the same way, the relatives included in Etxerat understand that this solution must be political ; as the same conflict has that nature; democratic, to guarantee the participation of all The Basque Country?s citizens, including our victimized relatives; and definite, as we do not want anybody to suffer the situation we are suffering now.
It does not correspond to us to decide neither how nor when steps must be done in this sense, but we have the obligation of being the stimulus of the political and social agents, as we are the most interested in the resolution and we do not want anybody to suffer in the future what we are suffering now.
From the beginning of our activity we adquire some obligations in which we are irreplaceable :
I. Firstly, we compromised to watch in a united way, for the rights that as people belong to our relatives with the purpose of guaranting their lives and our lives too.
II. To give evidence and information of the continuous infringement of the rights that as people and political victimized correspond to our relatives. The commitment adquired by Etxerat was that to make arrive to all our society?s field the testimony of a reality which, being hidden it does not mean it is less terrific.
III. To denounce the violence caused by the Spanish and French States to thousands of Basque citizens and specially against our relatives. To be the loudspeaker of the situation our relatives live, denouncing in front of society all and every aggression and life conditions particularly our relatives suffer and society in general.
IV. We also assume the responsibility to emphasize our relatives? political characteristic and of that struggle developed by them all.
V. Finally, we compromise to work with social and political agents from the Basque Country that bet for the conflict?s solution in democratic ways, a solution which without any doubt, will carry with it the returning back home of all our relatives.
