We, elected representatives and MPs, members of the Self-determination Gernika Network, taking into account the recent local and regional elections of 27th May 2007, the end of ETAs permanent cease fire and the imprisonment of Arnaldo Otegi (Batasunas spokesperson and head of the negotiation Commission), declare:

This weekend, 19th, 20th and 21st of January, in many countries of Europe, it will be presented the project "Friends of the Bask Land". The main goal is to affirm their support and solidarity for Basque Country's cause on getting a just peace with a democratic process.

Solidarity for the Basque Country few times has known such a large project. In many places they will organize many activities to push and help the peace process the Basque Country is actually living: Barcelona, Villafranca, Paris, Belfast, Cork, Milano, Taranto, Lisboa, Roterdam and Glasgow.

Open Letter to the European Union:

As a Friendship group in support for a Peace process in the Basque Country, we would like to express our opinion on the situation of the peace process after the Bomb attack in Madrid airport last December 30th.

Historic moment

For the first time in Basque history, the European parliament discusses the Basque political conflict through two different resolutions, one forwarded by the PSOE and supported by GUE and ALE/the Greens and the other one by the PP.

Historic moment we say because is the first time that the representatives of those countries integrated in the European Union will be able to inform themselves and debate on how to tackle the peace process. Historic moment because Europe recognises that the Basque Country is a political subject, because recognises the existence of a political conflict and that it must be resolved within the European Union's parameters.
